Cytoscape Exercise
For this in-class exercise we’ll be working with Cytoscape. This is a tool designed for scientific applications, but we’ll be using it to make network visualizations of some humanities data.
Objective
The goal of any visualization is to see or present your research differently. It should provide a new lens for you or audience, a lens that should lend ultimately productive views to your project. Otherwise, it’s just a pretty (or not) graph, right?
Part of the assignment, too, is for you to bang your head against this tool a little bit so that you can learn what it’s about. Experiment try new settings, and tweak colors and algorithms; whatever you do, though, make sure your visualization is doing work for the arguments of your endeavor.

- download AllegroLayout, it’s a set of algorithms that allow us to create more dynamic network visualizations.
- You’ll want to download the House of Mirth dataset from Moodle, and the Renaissance Drama dataset. Put them in an easy place to find.
